What Marketing Live Events Taught Me About Campaigns With a Deadline
Before founding Psyber, I spent two years as a director at Pryme Technologies, leading digital marketing for Pryme Events, a fast-paced company producing music events and live experiences across India. I directed a team of six, built and marketed websites and apps for events including ticket sales, and ran SEO, paid search and social campaigns to fill venues.
Event marketing is unforgiving. There is a fixed date, a fixed number of seats and no second chance. The lessons have shaped how I approach every time-bound campaign since, from product launches to real estate pre-launches.
1. Work backwards from the date
Every event campaign starts with the date and works backwards: when tickets go on sale, when early-bird pricing ends, when the final push begins. Any campaign with a deadline – a launch, a sale, an enrolment window – benefits from the same discipline.
2. Urgency must be real
Audiences can tell the difference between real scarcity and fake countdown timers. Genuine deadlines, limited early-bird tiers and honest updates about availability work. Invented urgency damages trust for the next campaign.
3. Make buying effortless
Every extra step in a ticketing flow loses buyers. Building the websites and ticketing for events taught me to obsess over checkout: fewer fields, mobile-first pages and clear confirmation. The same applies to any lead form or online store.
4. Content builds momentum
Line-up announcements, behind-the-scenes content and countdown posts kept audiences engaged between ticket releases. For any launch, plan a sequence of content, not a single announcement.
5. Measure daily, adjust daily
With weeks rather than months to work with, we reviewed analytics constantly and moved budget to whatever was selling tickets. Short campaigns reward fast decisions.
6. Your past audience is your best audience
People who attended before were the most likely to buy again. Building and using an audience list – email, SMS, WhatsApp, retargeting – lowered acquisition costs event after event.
Where these lessons apply today
I still use these principles for clients with deadlines: real estate project launches, seasonal sales, enrolment drives and product launches. If you have a time-bound campaign coming up, our Google Ads and social media teams plan backwards from your date. Talk to us.
